Tunisia is one of the Countrys in North Africa I have been with the Truck.
Between the Capital Tunis and the City of Sfax I travelled well around to know the Country and people. West-European textile Companies sowed their products down in north african countries cause of the cheap labour market situation and even the Trucking Companies grew up with doing trips into and out of Tunisia.
The biggest known Trucking Companies forwarding freight into Northern Africa was for sure Benntrans, Meyer & Meyer, Birkhart, DKS and others. Weekly trips between Germany and Tunisa gave those truckers an adventureful journey and new experience for the buisiness on the african continent.
As trips begun in Germany we choosed different directions depending on which Ferry we were dispatched on, so we crossed the Mediterranien Sea from Italy or either France by using their different habours.
Many European Truck drivers like showing others their first name using a license plate with the printed name on it.
In Tunis drivers almost bought a plate as a gift with the name and also the arabic letters showing up the word Tunis. I still have my plate in the windshield of my truck guessing I am not the only North Africa experienced Driver in North America.
Even a good idea to meet friends worldwide I met a guard at the Department of Food & Agriculture in California which came from Tunisia originally. He recognized my name sign as his home country plate which gave us a nice small talk and a little line up behind my truck.

意大利 Italy

In the 90th I drove a lot of trips to Italy. This Country south of the Alpes is having a size like a Boot and is known by good Wine and Food products and its expensive sportive Cars.
I did a lot of Trips hauling fresh Pork to Italy which came originally from Holland. In Italy the dutch ham got air dryed which gave it those Italian flavour.

The legal gross weight for Trucks in Italy is still 44 tons. Fines are dramatically high but some italian truckers don`t care. An important Road between Italy and France passes the Mont Blanc Tunnel which is 11.6 km long. After several crashes in the Tunnel, it was nearly destroyed by burned vehicles, both goverments either France and Italy increased their Security Standarts. I crossed through this Tunnel, in italian it is called Monte Bianco, several times before and also after the incredible incedent in 1999 when a Belgian Truck burned down and 39 people died.

荷兰 Netherlands


The traffic situation in the Netherlands becomes apparent at the rush hours mostly as a stau. The maximum speed allowed for Trucks of 80 km/h is kept by the professional windmills Truck drivers predominantly.

Holland has to offer not only windmills and tulips but also great buildings. The dykes like here the Afsluitdijk protect the whole land from a renewed storm flood like it was already happend in 1953.

The economic growth in China is not to be stopped. The Trucking Industry has become one of the most important branches of Industry in the Country. Nearly all famous Truck manufacturer have cooperated, in the meantime, with Chinese Truck builders and therefore the beauties of China have got oriented respectful to the western Countrys.


Unfortunately, the times have not really improved for most hard working inhabitants of China by the ernorme growth of the Country . Thus issues have risen the pollutant by the Truck traffic so strongly report the inhabitant about lasting sore throat. At night assemble, like here in Wuhan, Hubei Province, to get many Trucks with idling engine around after delivery by the tanker the often rationed amount from 5 gallons only in the gas stations.


The everyday stau on major roads in China is partly that long as Truck by Truck line up to 110-km length.

The Vehicle Gross Weight for Trucks is 55 tons. they can haul about 40 tons which is been watched by the Police. In China Trucks moving with team drivers only. Trucking without a second driver is not allowed.

英国 United Kingdom

During my trips to the U.K. i had to knew country and people.
the old land is very nice, unfortunately, also totally full of people. outdoors in the nature the streets are barely suitable for trucks. However, there is a well developed long distance road system.

The crime appears at Motorway`s. Truckers getting warned on signs by the police.


In the whole country people using the wrong side of the road. visitors have to take care of left driven traffic.


there are a bunch of toll roads in the U.K. but the major roads are still free usable.

ROMANIA still belongs to the poorer countrys of the European Union. I could collect my experience by the transport of chocolate in the capital of Bucharest. Corruption at all levels immobilized this land nearly, however, the West German currency at that time German mark helped many long-distance truckdrivers at the border being dispatched faster.
A 20 Deutsch Mark note in an invalid passport made a topical visa stamp into the passport by a drunk border employee.
I saw parked trucks on Bucharest`s roads without mirrors but a purpose. the drivers took them off cause they was afraid about theft matters.

Germany is my home Country. I have grown up in North Rhine Westfalia. When I turned 21 years of age I got my european license for driving big trucks the first time. Germany`s infrastructure is very high and Goods are transported in modern European Cabover truck`s. Longhaul trucking in Germany puts high claims to the driver. He must be well trained and is strictly supervised by the ordinal organs which means throughout the newest rules and regulations steering time excesses are hardly possible. Drivers are partially still urged to unlawful violations by dispatches. The speed limit for big trucks, here also known as LKW is 80 km/h. Possible speed, limited by law is almost 90 km/h. Regular roads and highways which are not belong to the German Autobahn system require a very bored speed limit for big trucks above 7.5 tons GVWR regulated at 60 km/h.
Actually sad to mention that the speed difference between cars and trucks will bring car drivers in a bad mood against the trucking business and its driver. The gouverments political answer was just ugly as well as they set passing restriction signs for trucks on nearly all 4 way Autobahn Highways which sometimes resulted in truck lining up on the right lane for many kilometres.
